His work is drawn to the gaps in the record: the disputed years, unstable borders and half-remembered lives from which legends grow.
Albion, his first novel, begins in 447 AD, a generation after Rome’s withdrawal from Britain. It follows rulers, warriors and survivors through the violent struggle to decide what the island will become.
The novel treats the Dark Ages not as an empty interval, but as a period of migration, invention and political consequence. Its Arthurian elements emerge from that world rather than sitting above it: legend as the afterlife of history.
